Directions
Our Cuyahoga River operation is located just east of Aurora in the Village of Mantua. It is approximately 40-minute drive from Cleveland Akron, or Youngstown.
From Cleveland
Take I-77 south to I-480 east, then continue on 422 east to Route 44. Turn right on 44 and head south for 7 miles. We are located in town on the left side of the street behind the carwash. If you cross the bridge over the river, you just missed the entrance.
From Akron
Take I-76 East to Route 44. Go north on Route 44 for approximately 14 miles. You will go past the Ohio turnpike. When you enter town, we are located on the right side of the street behind the carwash.
From Youngstown
Take OH-11 north to OH-82 west, then take US-422 west to Route 44. Make a left onto Route 44 heading south for 7 miles. We are located in town on the left side of the street behind the carwash. If you cross the bridge over the river, you just missed the entrance.
Description of River
The 8 mile section of the Cuyahoga River that we paddle is absolutely beautiful. It has a gentle flowing current which pushes your kayak down river so you can relax and take in the scenery around you. With an average depth of 2 - 4 feet, we don't have to be concerned with low water levels but not so high that you can't stand up in it in most sections. This section also has been designated as one of Ohio's scenic rivers.
This section of the river is designated as an Ohio State Scenic River by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR, n.d., para 1). And according to the National Park Service, it has "excellent water quality" (NPS, n.d., para 3). I have personally spotted bald eagles, beavers, otters and many species of birds and turtles in the river.
